Fred Ranallo Higgins

Frederick M. Ranallo-Higgins is Assistant to the President and the Title IX Coordinator at Won Institute of Graduate Studies, one of the premier graduate-level nonprofit educational institutions of East Asian acupuncture medicine, herbal medicine, and Won Buddhism. An experienced educator and administrator with a demonstrated history of working in higher education and nonprofit administration, Frederick works closely with the Won Institute Board of Trustees and brings board management and strategic planning experience and skills. As a Title IX Coordinator, he has a passion for civil rights enforcement and policy development. Inspired by galaei’s commitment to radical social justice and to fighting systemic oppressions, structural racism, discrimination, and white supremacy, he hopes his educational, administration, and board experience and his desire to serve Philadelphia’s QTBIPoC community will aid galaei in fulfilling its important mission.
After many years living in South Korean temples and seminaries as a Won Buddhist ordinand, Frederick graduated summa cum laude from the University of Colorado in Art History and Religious Studies, received a MA from Columbia University in Korean Studies, and received a PhD from UCLA in East Asian Languages and Cultures with an emphasis in Korean Religious History. He lives in Point Breeze with his long-time partner, with whom he shares an obsession for music and the arts.
