Nadeen Herring is a HER-STORY Maker. She is a K-thru-college and adult studies educator of almost 30 years. From her humble beginnings in the Bronx, NY to her coming of age in Harrisburg, PA, Nadeen modeled her parents’ commitment to equity, diversity and social justice because she was taught that it’s “our responsibility, period”. Nadeen’s persistence landed her at Spelman College where she earned a B.A. in English and then an M.A. in English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, where she also earned teacher certification in secondary education. Nadeen is now the founder/owner of blaq noyz, LLC, where she not only facilitates trainings nationwide for educators and business professionals surrounding the creation of safe spaces for transgender human beings, she also launched her first children’s book series, Life: According to Z, an autobiographical account of her 16 year-old trans child’s life experiences since introducing himself to her at the age of 7. Nadeen is an education partner with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Gender and Sexuality Clinic and has been invited to speak at events sponsored by the City of Philadelphia’s Office of LGBT Affairs and other local and State entities. Nadeen is an unapologetic, aspiring co-conspirator for transgender and queer visibility and celebration in our QTBIPOC communities and beyond. Her life-commitment is to remain a voice of righting the wrongs she sees in schools and in every day relations where people’s intersectional identities are grossly and inhumanely dismissed, mishandled and re- created.
